Precision tools for plantation management

Four services designed around what estate owners actually need: accurate maps, actionable insights, precision field tools, and digital records that work in the field.

01 — Drone Mapping

Drone Mapping & Aerial Surveys

Precision aerial surveys for coffee, tea, and mixed plantations — and any crop grown across irregular or sloped terrain. We deploy a mapping drone with RTK GPS positioning to capture your estate at centimetre-level accuracy, covering boundary demarcation, area measurement, terrain modelling, and aerial documentation.

Every survey is processed using photogrammetry — the science of building accurate 3D models and orthomosaics from overlapping aerial images. The result is publication-quality maps and terrain models your team can immediately act on. Where crops or trees are exposed to open sky and visible to the drone camera, multispectral analysis can also provide canopy health data.

Delivery: All outputs within 5 business days of the survey flight. Payment: 50% advance, 50% on delivery.

Outputs

  • Orthomosaic RGB map — High-resolution aerial view stitched from hundreds of images. Up to 3 cm/pixel resolution.
  • Digital Terrain Model (DTM) — Bare-earth surface model showing true land contours — used for slope analysis and drainage planning.
  • Digital Surface Model (DSM) — Surface model including canopy and structures — used to estimate tree heights and canopy variation.
  • NDVI / NDRE maps — Multispectral vegetation indices where crops or trees are directly exposed to the sky and drone camera.
  • Slope-corrected area calculations — True surface area accounting for terrain slope — essential for accurate acreage billing and yield estimates.
  • Pond & lake volume survey — Fill-depth mapping, spillover risk, and precise storage volume for irrigation ponds and lakes — surveyed the same way as the rest of the estate.
  • Boundary KML file — GPS polygon of your estate boundary, importable into any GIS or mission-planning software.
  • GIS report (PDF) — Printable summary report covering terrain analysis, spatial statistics, and key estate metrics.
Equipment: Precision multispectral mapping drone with RGB and 4-band multispectral sensors. RTK GPS base station for centimetre-level accuracy. Professional photogrammetry software for processing. No brand names disclosed in client documents — ask us directly.

02 — GIS Analytics & Precision Agronomy

GIS Analytics & Precision Agronomy

Turn aerial imagery into actionable decisions for your estate. GIS Analytics takes the raw outputs from a drone survey — orthomosaics, DSMs, and multispectral layers — and interprets them into insights you can act on. Precision agronomy takes it further: siting crops zone by zone, and detecting and counting individual plants and trees directly from the imagery.

Rather than handing you a map and leaving interpretation to you, we deliver an analysis layer: which zones are performing, which are struggling, where to focus your next intervention, and how the estate has changed over time.

We also support GIS teams, survey companies, and drone mapping freelancers who need raw drone data processed and interpreted for their own clients — custom processing pipelines, repeatable workflows, and conversion into 3D and CAD formats built around how you work.

What We Analyse

Vegetation Health (NDVI / NDRE)

Multispectral analysis of crop or tree health where the canopy is exposed to open sky. Applicable to tea, arecanut, coconut, orchards, and open-grown crops.

Terrain Analysis

Slope, aspect, and drainage patterns derived from the DTM. Used for irrigation line planning, erosion risk assessment, and run-off pit placement.

Crop Siting & Zoning

Match slope, elevation, and sun exposure against known cultivation requirements to classify the estate into crop-siting zones — including interplant readiness for a second crop.

Individual Plant & Tree Detection

Detect and count individual trees or plants directly from the orthomosaic — for stand-density mapping, variety classification, and yield planning.

Zone Classification

Segment the estate into zones based on terrain, aerial imagery, and available spectral data. Prioritise interventions by zone rather than treating the estate as a uniform block.

Yield Correlation

Layer spatial data against season picking records from ThotaTracker to identify which zones produce the most — and why.

Canopy Height & Coverage

Estimate individual tree heights and canopy cover from the DSM. Useful for shade management decisions on coffee and mixed plantation estates.

03 — Field Planning & Precision GPS

Field Planning & Precision GPS

We believe in flying drones automatically wherever possible — it avoids the inconsistencies and risk of manual flight. Every mapping mission starts with a boundary: drawn, edited, or imported directly from a walked GPS track, right in your browser.

Any boundary — GeoJSON, shapefile, or another common format — converts directly into a flight-mappable file, ready to import into an enterprise-grade mapping drone's own flight-planning software. The same boundary also drives an automated video flight path, flown at a smooth, constant speed and gimbal angle, and precisely repeatable a year or more later for a direct before/after comparison of how the landscape has changed.

The same polygon editor works as a general-purpose spatial tool too — property boundary demarcation, asset and infrastructure mapping, agri-input planning, and any land-record or GIS use case, independent of whether a drone survey follows at all.

Precision GPS — Base Stations & Handheld Devices

Precision positioning is the foundation every boundary, flight mission, and GIS layer here is built on. We support the installation of RTK base stations, and train clients on precision handheld GNSS/RTK receivers for accurate boundary and resource marking in the field — for personal or business use, independent of any drone survey.

Recommended

For best-in-class accuracy, a precision RTK handheld device — capable of under 5 cm positional accuracy, provided it stays within roughly a 20–40 km radius of an active RTK base station. Standard phone or handheld GPS typically holds to 3–5 m; RTK correction is the difference between "roughly right" and survey-grade.

Live — already in operation

Future Thota is part of a shared, live precision GPS correction network. Station owners host their own RTK base station and, in return, broadcast centimetre-level corrections to every subscriber within range — one base station makes sub-5 cm positioning available to multiple businesses across a region, not just its own use. Every high-precision survey we run today draws on this same corrected GPS network.

04 — ThotaTracker

ThotaTracker

Digital records for every operation on your estate. Works offline. No paper needed.

ThotaTracker is a Progressive Web App (PWA) — it installs on any iOS or Android phone like a native app, works fully offline in the field, and syncs when you reconnect. The interface mirrors the paper workflow estate managers already use, so the transition from notebooks to digital is frictionless.

Currently live and in active daily use on a production coffee estate in Coorg.
